December 2016 Newsletter

JetsNewsletters

Welcome

As the 2016 year comes to an end, the Committee would like to share some very exciting news about our club. We are delighted to announce that our club name will be changing to Metro Jets Netball Club Inc.

After initially being developed in the Western suburbs, our Club has grown over the years, and now includes players and officials from all over Adelaide. Player participation at Jets has increased in the Northern and Southern districts as well as from the Adelaide Hills regions and this name change will enable us to increase player recruitment from the greater metropolitan area.

The name change will also help to attract and entice new business sponsors from all areas of Adelaide ensuring that we remain a “Club of Choice” within the South Australian netball community.

The Committee will send more information regarding the changes in the New Year.

We wish you all a safe and happy festive season and look forward to seeing you again in 2017.

Jets Academy Has Landed

The first ever Jets Academy program for emerging talent is set to finish its program this week.
Over the last 10 weeks, players in the Junior and Intermediate age groups have been coached in various skills, leadership, nutritional advice and injury prevention, with the view of helping those players progress along a player pathway en route to the State Premier Netball Competition (‘SPNC’) and beyond.  Who knows, we may have unearthed a Diamond or two!
The Academy group have attended Sunday morning and Thursday evening sessions, run by our SPNC coaching staff, and supported by our Academy coaches. The Academy sessions have focused on skill development and improved court play.  Premier League Coach, Jim Haldane, has been impressed by the enthusiasm and dedication shown by these players and looks forward to seeing some push for selection in our SPNC squad in the near future. We would like to thank our Academy Sponsors Mike Turtur Cycles (Juniors) and Hillross Kent Town (Inters) for all of their support with the 2016/17 Summer Academy Program.

State Premier League Squad Starts Preseason

What a game. The Metro Jets SPNC squad has commenced its pre-season program for the 2017 season, and this year’s squad sees the addition of several new players. Defenders Katherine Grantham and Kaylah Eglinton, along with shooter Shannen Eglinton have been welcomed into the Jets family and are part of the squad. In addition, we have some familiar faces who have worked their way through our player pathways to reach the SPNC. Club players coming into the Premier League squad include: up and coming shooters Kate Johnstone and Clare O’Reilly, and promising midcourter Jamie Schubert (all played last season at Jets). The Club is also pleased to announce that Jan Kaluza has been appointed Reserves Coach for 2017, joining Head Coach Jim Haldane and Assistant Coach Rod Webster, as part of the SPNC coaching team.

The Premier League squad is currently in a strength and conditioning phase of training led by new SPNC Conditioning Coach Sean Baker. Sean, owner of PEAQ Conditioning based at the West Adelaide Football Club, has put together a rigorous program aimed at ensuring our players are in peak condition and remain injury free.  His sessions emphasize high intensity and a never give up attitude.

The players have already had a couple of ‘challenges’ along the way where team squadrons have competed against each other for the coveted ‘pre-season cup’. The challenge concept promotes a rivalry and competitiveness between the players, and will prepare them well for the season ahead.

I am also pleased to announce that Thunderbirds young shooter Jane Cook will be joining the Jets as our Thunderbird draftee this year. Whilst we wish Jane the best, we hope to see her in the blue, black and white colours of Metro Jets very soon.

Community Spirit

Last month, saw the first entry of a Jets team in the South Australian Junior Nunga Netball Carnival. The team was entered into the Under 17’s division, and composed of the following players:

The girls fought hard throughout the day, successfully making it through to the Grand Final. Unfortunately, they couldn’t quite knock off Kaurna (last years winners), but it was an awesome game and a fantastic effort for our first year in the competition.
The Club is also proud to announce that Waniki Gibuma-Marr and Madison McLeod were named in the top 10 players of the tournament. Congratulations ladies!

Jets Sponsorship

Are you interested in becoming a Metro Jets Team sponsor?
Metro Jets relies on sponsorship to help cover the substantial costs of running the Club, eg: court hire, umpire payments, equipment, development opportunities and participating in the Premier League. Without adequate sponsorship support, the Club is at risk of increasing fees or limiting the participation for our Club players.
We currently have some great opportunities for you to advertise your business, whilst also helping to support our club. To discuss further options, contact our Sponsorship Coordinator Simon Adam.
