Hello Jets families,

The 2018 winter season started for the senior teams on 14 April 2018 and the rest of the club has now started and there have already been some great wins across the age groups. Well done Jetsters!!

There has been a lot happening through the club so far with a successful coaches meeting taking place, sponsors night and club day being organised. Photo night is also coming up soon, so please check out the save the date section below for more information.

The club has some wonderful events taking place through the year and we have a great team of volunteers in the fundraising committee and we are always looking for more volunteers to help. There are always raffles, club day help, BBQ’s, etc that need parent help so if you can spare some time throughout the season to help our fundraising committee please contact Wendy Eddy at fundraisingmetrojets@gmail.com.

We would also like to thank all our sponsors this year for their support. We have such a variety of businesses supporting us so if you are looking to go out for dinner, looking at real estate or building, need financial or accounting services etc, please consider these businesses. All sponsors are advertised through the newsletters and on the Metro Jets website and if you click on the logo it will take you directly to their business website or Facebook page.

I am looking forward to another successful season ahead and I wish all teams the best of luck.

Thanks to everyone that came and supported the PL squad at the pre-season cup. 10 teams including the Thunderbirds, the state Country team and the state league clubs all competed in a carnival atmosphere and it was a very successful day. Our players had the opportunity to put their skills to use throughout the day and I was extremely proud of the performance they put forth in representing our club.

I am excited to see the progress and development of these athletes throughout the season. The PL season started on Friday 18th May 2018 and we had a great first game against Garville. We will be having the PL Sponsors night on June 8 and we would love to see as many teams come out and celebrate out League Squad. The club will pay for the junior players to get in and we have a “Best Dressed Jet” competition so we hope to see lots of you there on the night.

Ankle Taping or a Brace to Prevent Sprains?

The research is clear that both ankle taping or bracing is very useful to prevent ankle sprains.   What works best, depends on the individual.  Club Physiotherapist Sandy Woolman from the Adelaide Crows Sports Medicine clinic discusses the pros and cons of ankle taping or bracing here.

Did you know? When a player passes the ball, there must be sufficient space for an opposing play on the court to be able to
intercept the ball
as it moves from the hands of the thrower to those of the receiver Did you know? Pivot is defined as a movement where the player with the ball swivels either on the heel or on the ball of the landing foot, without gaining any ground.

If you have any questions about the rules, please contact our umpiring coordinator, Caitlin North at metrojetsumpiring@gmail.com

The Metro Jets Coloured Shirt program has kicked off to a great start this summer season. All 8 girls (Charlie Bradford, Laura Duncan, Imogen Graham, Isabelle Grinham, Caitlin Eichner, Annalese Dunbar, Montana Dunbar & Teagan Dunbar) have improved beyond expectations. Their application of the rules, for learner umpires, is fantastic and they are always looking for feedback and clarification. Keep an eye out in winter season for them cruising up the grades.

It has been a pleasure to work with such a keen bunch of girls. There are some very promising developmental opportunities coming up to the winter season, so be sure to send me at email at metrojetsumpiring@gmail.com.

If you’re interested in umpiring and supporting our Club, we would love to have you on board. Metro Jets are required to provide an umpire for every game that we participate in, so we need your help. Please contact our Umpiring Coordinator Caitlin North at metrojetsumpiring@gmail.com if you have any questions, or would like to know more about the process and support offered within our Umpiring Program.
